Origins of Down to Earth
Down to Earth is a female led business, started by owner and founder Katie Horne. While filling her home with tropical plants, Katie began as a self taught plant enthusiast. She now has 7+ years of experience in plant care and 3+ years of experience in plant/floral design. Additionally, she studied environmental health for 4 years and gained a strong interest in sustainability. In 2021, Katie combined her passions, and started a business that would bring her talents to life.
Down to Earth was founded on three main principles:
Attention to aesthetics and design
Ensuring the health and growth of plants
Incorporating sustainability and low-waste practices
where sustainability meets plant care
During plant care services, we ensure that every step we take is *green*, to make you and the earth happy. As one of the founding principles of Down to Earth, sustainability efforts can be seen through two main methods listed below.
all-natural products
When it comes to fertilizers and pesticides, we always ensure that neither plants nor humans come into contact with harmful toxins. All products that we use are certified organic and only contain ingredients found in nature.
low-waste practices
When we throw away organic matter, it generates methane (a harmful greenhouse gas that directly contributes to global warming). For this reason, we compost all plant scraps and old soil that’s leftover from maintenance. Additionally, we save & reuse all plastic nursery pots after repotting your plants.
